Google AdWords earns somewhere around $32.2 Billion in advertising revenue which is 97% of Google total revenue. And this is one of the global platforms for creating digital ads to sell the product, generate leads or for branding. In this article, I am going to cover step by step guide on creating ads on Google AdWords: Google AdWords Campaign or how to setup a google adwords campaigns in 2018. It’s important to understand few basics before you proceed to create ads on Google AdWords. So let’s get started with creating Google AdWords campaign.
Things Needed to Create Google AdWords Account:
- Gmail id – New or old any Gmail id is fine, make sure you added the right mobile number for sometimes getting the verification code.
- Website – Link of the website for that you wish to run an Ad campaign or if you want to handle client’s site then you need MCC – My Client Centre account.
- Personal Details – Here the important thing is to keep in mind is the location, time zone, and currency.
- Payment Details – How you wish to pay for ads, you can spend via – Net banking, Debit Card, Credit Card, etc.
Before creating google adwords campaigns you need to have a google adwords account.
How to Create Google AdWords Account:
In the previous version of Google Adwords it was straightforward to create an account in 3 steps, but in Dec 2017 Google AdWords interface changed and few processes also. Now in 2018 for creating the google account, it will take more time but gives you more option to set up. So let’s understand how to create Google AdWords account in 2018 step by step:
Step 1 – Go to AdWords official website from adwords.google.com and you will see the button of “START Now” in green color. Click on it then it will redirect to setting up your account.
Step 2 – Now it will take you to welcome page, here you have to enter email id and website URL and then click on continue. Then it will ask you to sign up, and sometimes it also ask for verification. Once you are done with it, then it will redirect to Google AdWords Express.
Step 3 – Google AdWords Express welcome page will ask you to select your goal, and also it matches your goal with the website. If it’s matching, then it will automatically setup few settings for you.
Your Account creation is done, Next Step will ask you to create ads. Now if you do not want to create ads then just close the browser or tab and again login from AdWords link and click on left top button “Sign in” then it will redirect to AdWords Dashboard.
Your Google AdWords Account is ready now; you will see the red color line in the top because of billing & tax information is not set up. You can setup it later or anytime you want. It’s time to create ads on Google AdWords or in Google AdWords Express.
Now you are ready to setup a google adwords campagins.
How to Setup a Google AdWords Campaigns 2018:
December 2017 Google changes its features and interfaces so here you will learn to create Google AdWords ad campaign in 2018 step by step. For creating ads in Google AdWords follow these simple steps:
Step 1 – Login or Sign up in AdWords website from adwords.google.com.
Step 2 – Go to campaigns section from the left sidebar and click on it. Here you will see a blue circle with + sign, check the below attached screenshot. When you click on it, it will display two options:
- New Campaign
- Load Campaign setting
Click on the new campaign to start a new ad campaign.
Step 3 – When you click on the new ad campaign, it will display you option – what kind of ads you want to create. It will show search network, display network, shopping, video, universal mobile app network. Choose from the option what kind of ad you want to create. Once you click on the box, below, it will show you the goal, what type of goal you want to achieve from the ad campaign – Sales, Leads, Website Traffic, Brand Awareness, etc. For each network it will display its goals, you have to select any one from them. Once you select the option, I decided leads in this tutorial. It will ask you on what basis you want to generate leads. In this example, giving me three options: Website Visit, Phone Calls, and app downloads. Here I selected website visit, next it will ask you for website URL. Just enter the website URL on which you want to generate leads.
If you select phone calls, then you need to choose the country and enter the mobile number, or if you decide to Get app downloads, then you need to register app details in next step. Now click on continue.
Now you are ready to set up your Google AdWords campaigns.
Let’s create Google Search ads in 4 stages:
Stages 1: Select campaign setting
In this step, you need to fill campaign level details, check the below attached screenshot.
Give the name of the campaign – it’s a good practice to give a name that you can quickly understand why you created that campaign.
Network – Here I created search campaign but search campaign can also be displayed on display network so if you wish to display ad on display network then click on Yes.
Location – Add the location, where you want to display ads. You can select any specific cities, state or the entire country.
Language – Select your target customer language for you wish to target.
Bidding – set the bidding options as per your need and how you want to focus based on conversion or clicks. You can also select automatic and manual bidding options.
Budget – Budget is the amount you are willing to pay for your ads in a day. Here in below, there is an option of delivery method, in this section, you can select how you wish to pay for ads.
Start and End Date – You can set up the starting date of Google Adwords ads and end date of the ad campaign.
Sitelink extensions – If you wish to add extensions based on the campaign type then you can use this options. It’s always recommended to use sitelink extension.
Callout Extensions – Callout extensions gives you the facility to add an extra call to action button in your ad campaign.
Call extensions – This will help you to add details like a review, call buttons, etc. into your ad campaign.
Additional Setting – If you want to add extra features like review extensions, price extensions, message extensions, promotion extensions, ad rotation, ad schedule, etc. then you can use.
Now after filling all the details click on “Save and Continue” button below.

Stage 2: Setup ad Group
In this AdWords section, you can create multiple ad groups based on the keywords. For each type of keywords or keeping relevant keywords into one ad group will help you to improve your ad rank.
Here you have to select the default bid amount you wish to pay for per click and enter the keywords inside the box. In right side it will also give you an idea about keywords, you can also add from the theme. While writing keywords, you can also use the symbol to set keywords type into the Google AdWords ad group. Google AdWords Campagin Keywords:
Keywords plays important role while creating ads, so I suggest you to go to keywords planner and do research on keywords. Here is the step to go to keywords planner and you will get ideas about keywords search volume, traffic, cpc, etc.
Keyword research is one of the difficult task on how to setup a google adwords campaigns in 2018.
Stage 3: Create Ads
In this step, we create ads in Google AdWords to display the target customer. To start building ads click on the square box written “+ new ad.” Once you click it will ask you to fill few details:
Final URL: Url where you want your customer to land after clicking on the link.
Headline 1: Main headline of the ad, you need to write within 30 words.
Headline 2: Subheading of the ad, you need to write within 30 words.
Display Path: The URL path you wish to display to your visitor.
Description: Add content more about the ads within 80 words.
While writing these things, it will show you how it will look. So you can customize and prepare the best ads. Check below ad campaign how I created in AdWords for reference.
Once you are done with it, click on done to save and then again by clicking on the + sign you can create another ad. If you wish to move to next stage, then click on “Save and Continue” button.
Stage 4: Review (Last Step of Creating Google AdWords Campaign)
This stage give you the idea about your overall performance. It provides you estimated clicks you will get on your ad and display you the other details. You can check the below AdWords campaign review.
If you found everything is fine, then click on “Continue to Campaign”. Congrats you have successfully created AdWords campaign.
Now you can see your Google AdWords campaigns status in the camping sections. Check the below screenshot to understand. If it’s green then its working and if you wish to pause then click on it, you will see the options.
